The Football Team for Home Town Heroes

February 22, 2005 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Fayetteville Guard News Release

Fayetteville, NC--- The HEAT has been turned off and The Fayetteville Guard is on duty, football duty that is. The Fayetteville franchise of the National Indoor Football League has joined the leaders of Cumberland County in a nationwide patriotic initiative that will make Fayetteville, NC "The most patriotic city in the nation."

"In an effort to recognize the service of the men and women of Fort Brag and Pope Air Force base, we gladly changed our name to The Fayetteville Guard," said Team Owner Richard King. "The Fayetteville Guard is honored to be apart of this patriotic campaign and we appreciate their service and recognize their sacrifices, that's why we are ‘The Football Team for Home Town Heroes.'"

The team name, logo and colors have a military flair and the spirit décor is prevalent, among the NIFL organization and the community it serves. Fort Bragg, NC, the largest Army installation in the nation, and Pope Air Force Base account for the greater part of the population of Cumberland County and generated revenue.

"It's time to promote what this community has," said Mark Williams, president of the Fayetteville Area Hospitality Association. "We can't promote the beach. We can't promote the mountains. We're a military community, and we should cater to that."

The Fayetteville Guard will play its home opener April 2 against the Odessa Roughnecks at the Crown Coliseum. Season Tickets are still available and can be purchased by logging onto www.fayettevilleguard.com or calling (910) 482-4328.
