New Mexico Scorpions News Release

ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico Scorpions continue to stay busy in their efforts to support the greater Albuquerque community as the holiday season approaches.

The highlight of the past week's activity was the record 851 teddy bears collected from New Mexico's WB Teddy Bear Toss, which were tossed onto the ice following the Scorpions' first goal during Saturday's game against Colorado. It is the third straight year that the Scorpions have conducted the teddy bear toss, and the first in conjunction with New Mexico's WB (KABQ-TV).

Here's a sampling of what the Scorpions have done over the past week:

· Scorpions defensemen Daniel Tetrault and Erik Adams appeared on The Ian Martin Show last Thursday on Sports Radio 610 The Sports Animal (KNML-AM)

· Scorpions forwards Mike Possin and Daryl Moor appeared on KISS 97.3 FM last Friday and donated Scorpions teddy bears, Miguel Beaudry bobblehead dolls, and stuffed dolls of mascots Stanley the Scorpion and Carpincho to help the station Fill a Home with Toys campaign.

· Scorpions players Shawn Legault, Aaron Schneekloth, Trevor Hammer, Ivan Svarny and Jordan Bianchin along with Stanley the Scorpion delivered teddy bears on Monday, Dec. 13 to Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless, 1217 1st St. NW.

· Scorpions players Peter Ambroziak, Daniel Tetrault and Alexandre Piche attended lunch yesterday with the Spina Bifida Association of New Mexico at Carrie Tingley Children's Hospital.

Here's what the Scorpions have planned in the coming days:

· TODAY – Stanley the Scorpion will be attending the Christmas Party at La Familia, 707 Broadway NE, from 3 to 5 p.m.

· Tuesday, Dec. 21 – The entire Scorpions team, along with a very special Santa Claus, will be delivering more teddy bears and visiting with patients at Carrie Tingley Children's Hospital (1127 University NE) from 2 to 4 p.m. Don't miss this special event, as it is a treat every year and promises to be even bigger and better this year.

· Tuesday, Dec. 21 – Scorpions Hockey Talk will be conducting a special holiday edition live on location at Boston's, located on Jefferson just west of I-25, from 6 to 6:40 p.m. Scorpions forward Shawn Legault, coach Bill McDonald and the Voice of the Scorpions Mike Sheehan.

If you would like to book the Scorpions for your charitable event, call Scorpions Community Relations Coordinator Kara Vehar at 881-7825, or email to kvehar@scorpionshockey.com. The Scorpions are back in action as they visit the San Angelo Saints tonight, Friday, Dec. 17 and tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 18 for back-to-back games. Both games start at 6:05 p.m. MST, and will be broadcast on Sports Radio 610 The Sports Animal and on the Internet at www.scorpionshockey.com and www.broadcastmonsters.com beginning at 5:50 p.m. with the Voice of the Scorpions Mike Sheehan.
