Minnesota Lacrosse Selects 10 Players In NLL Expansion Draft

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The National Lacrosse League’s (NLL) Minnesota Lacrosse team selected ten players today in the NLL Expansion Draft. The club selected one goaltender, three defensemen and six forwards.

Minnesota selected the following players: defenseman Cam Bergman (Anaheim Storm), forward Sean Pollock (Arizona Sting), forward Jason Clark (Buffalo Bandits), goaltender Matt King (Calgary Roughnecks), forward Curtis Smith (Colorado Mammoth), defenseman Shawn Nadelen (Philadelphia Wings), forward Jon Harasym (Rochester Knighthawks), forward Dan Teat (San Jose Stealth), forward Rusty Kruger (Toronto Rock) and defenseman Bruce Alexander (Vancouver Ravens).

“We are excited to add this group of players who will help us build a winning organization,” said Minnesota Lacrosse General Manager Marty O’Neill.

Minnesota selected one player via conference call from each NLL team for a total of ten players in the Expansion Draft. Each club was allowed to protect either one goaltender and thirteen runners or two goaltenders and ten runners from its current roster.

The Minnesota Lacrosse team will continue to build its roster via the 2004 NLL Entry Draft and the signing of free agents. The Entry Draft will be held on Tuesday, October 26 at 7:00 PM. The team will begin play in the NLL’s Eastern Division this January. Notched 39 points (14-25=39) and 65 loose balls in 16 games with the Buffalo Bandits last season…Ranked fifth on the club in scoring…Registered five points (3-2=5) in three playoff games as Buffalo was defeated by Calgary in the Champion’s Cup Final, 14-11…Accumulated 212 points (95-117=212) and 296 loose balls in 69 career NLL games during five seasons with Buffalo, Ottawa, New York and Philadelphia.

Posted a record of 2-1 with a 12.17 goals against average (GAA) and a .719 save percentage in six games as a goaltender with the Calgary Roughnecks last season…Appeared on the floor for remaining ten regular season contests and notched three assists…Played in all three playoff games for Champion’s Cup winners…Won the 2003 Mann Cup with the Victoria Shamrocks…Originally Calgary’s second pick (29th overall) in the 2001 NLL Entry Draft.

Tallied 20 points (10-10=20) in 15 games with the San Jose Stealth last year…Added six goals and one assist in Stealth’s lone playoff game…Traded to Toronto on July 27, 2004…Collected 184 points (101-83=184), 352 loose balls and 192 penalty minutes in 81 career NLL contests during seven seasons with San Jose, Albany, New York and Rochester.

D Shawn Nadelen 6-0 200 4/16/79 Rochester, New York Philadelphia Wings

Recorded ten points (1-9=10) and 67 loose balls in 11 games with the Philadelphia Wings last season…Recorded 35 points (8-27=35) and 204 loose balls in 36 career NLL contests during three seasons with Philadelphia and New Jersey…Played four years at John Hopkins University (1998-2001)…Named Second Team All-American following senior campaign.

F Shawn Pollock 5-10 180 7/7/82 Wallaceburg, Ontario Arizona Sting

Scored three goals in five games with Arizona Sting during rookie NLL season…Added 64 points (28-36=64) and 69 penalty minutes in 19 contests with the Victoria Shamrocks of the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) this year…Ranked tied for second on the team in scoring and penalty minutes.
