Vero Beach Devil Rays News Release
Dunedin, FLâ A pitcher's duel quickly fell apart for the Vero Beach Dodgers as they were pasted by the Dunedin Blue Jays 13-0 Wednesday night. RHP Dimas Reina had allowed only one single through four scoreless innings in dueling with Dunedin starter RHP Ismael Ramirez, but hit a wall and never survived the fifth. Reina retired the first hitter before giving up three consecutive singles, a sacrifice fly and then the big blow â a three run home run by RF Ron Davenport.
RHP Clint Hosford found the sledding no easier as he replaced Reina and promptly gave up seven more runs in the sixth inning as Dunedin ran their lead to 12-0. DH Raul Tablado hit a two-run homer and 1B Vito Chiravalotti drove in a pair more with a double, providing some of the offensive highlights for the Blue Jays.
Ramirez handcuffed the Dodgers, allowing no runs on only three hits and no walks, striking out 10 en route to his league-leading 11th win in snapping the Dodgers' brief two-game winning streak.
With the loss, the Dodgers' lead over the second-place Daytona Cubs in the East Division shrunk to just a half of a game. The Dodgers and Daytona begin a crucial four-game series at Holman Stadium Friday evening.
The four-game series wraps up Thursday night at Knology Park in Dunedin as the Dodgers aim to take three of four from the Blue Jays. First pitch is slated for 7:00 PM and can be heard on AM-1490 WTTB.
