July 9, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (July 9, 2004) - The Trenton Titans announced today they have agreed to terms with forward Andrew McPherson and defenseman Brian Escobedo for the 2004-05 season. The Titans acquired McPherson on June 4, 2004 in a move that completed the trade in which defenseman Shaun Fisher was sent to the Roanoke Express in exchange for future considerations.
"Andrew's a big guy who had a big year for Roanoke last season," said Mike Haviland, Titans Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations. "We expect big things from him again this season."
The twenty-five year old appeared in 70 games for the Express last season, tallying 17 goals, 20 assists and 130 PIM. A four-year letterman at Rensaleer Polytechnic Institute, McPherson was selected in the ninth round (#261 overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. The third-year pro split his rookie season between the Wheeling Nailers and Charlotte Checkers of the ECHL and the New Mexico Scorpions of the CHL.
Escobedo, 22, comes to the Titans after a four-year career at Bowling Green University, where he chipped in 12 goals and 37 assists over 146 games.
"Brian's a quality defenseman from a quality hockey program," Haviland said. "He's going to be steady along the blueline and also has the ability to provide some offense."
Last season the Bayside, NY native was signed by Cincinnati Cyclones at the conclusion of his senior year and recorded 3 assists in 8 games. Prior to his time at Bowling Green, Escobedo skated for two seasons with the New York Apple Core of the Eastern Junior Hockey League.
