Manchester Wolves News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. (June 10, 2004) - The arenafootball2 league office announced today that wide receiver J.J. McKelvey has been assigned to the Manchester Wolves, New England's newest professional football team. McKelvey will travel with the team to Fayetteville, N.C. this weekend and is expected to see significant action for the Wolves on Saturday night (June 12) in their battle against the Cape Fear Wildcats.
McKelvey, an af2 rookie, comes to the Wolves after a stellar career at Clemson University, where he was a three-year letterwinner for the Tigers. In 37 career games played, he caught 84 passes for 1,277 yards (15.2 yards per catch) and eight touchdowns. Despite making just eight starts, McKelvey finished his career ranked in the top 15 in school history in receptions (14th) and receiving yards (15th). The 6-4, 225-pound native of Moncks, S.C. also finished seventh in Clemson history in career yards per reception among players with at least 80 catches. McKelvey's impressive collegiate resume earned him attention at the NFL level, signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an unrestricted free agent in April of 2003.
"J.J. has tremendous physical tools that will make him an immediate presence on the football field," Wolves Head Coach Rik Richards said. "He's got a great wingspan, runs good routes and has good speed. He gives us another weapon to throw to, and I think he'll be able to hold his own on defense too."
In other team roster news, the af2 league office also announced the following transactions for the Wolves: DS Allistair Sebastien has been placed on short term injured reserve (shoulder strain) and OL/DL Floyd Black and WR/DB Sam Baptiste have been activated off injured reserve and placed on re-assignment.
