Xplorers Sign Former NFL QB And Protectors

SOUTHAVEN, Miss – The Memphis Xplorers announced today that they have been assigned quarterback Cleo Lemon by the af2. Lemon, a native of Greenwood, MS, was last with the Baltimore Ravens and played his college ball at Arkansas State. The 6-2, 226-pound Lemon is Arkansas State's all-time leader in passing yardage (7,706 yards) and career touchdown passes (48). He also owns ASU single-game (403) and single-season (2,721) records for passing yardage. Xplorers training camp begins on March 18th with the home opener set for April 12th against Bakersfield.
“We are thrilled to get a guy of Cleo’s caliber,” Xplorers head coach Danton Barto said. “The experience and talent he brings to our organization is a real boost on the offensive side of the ball.”
Lemon was a four-year starter for Arkansas State. He set virtually every Arkansas State passing and total offense record. Lemon became Arkansas StateÂ’s all-time leading passer as a junior and added to his totals during the 2000 season. Lemon signed an NFL free agent contract with the Green Bay Packers in April of 2001. He later spent time in NFL Europe and most recently attended training camp with the Baltimore Ravens.
The Xplorers also announced that af2 has assigned several other players to the Memphis Xplorers for the 2003 season.
“These guys will be the heart of our offense and defense,” said Lou Esposito, Xplorers OL / DL coach. “On offense their job is to make sure that Cleo has time to work, while on defense they are going to disrupt everything that the other team tries to do. These guys are big and can move and I can’t wait to work with them.”
