Heat Adds Veteran Goalkeeper

January 7, 2003 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2) Harrisburg Heat

Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Heat announced today that the club has signed veteran goalkeeper Chris Damico to an MISL offer sheet. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Heat acquired Damico's rights from the Kansas City Comets to complete the September 9 deal that sent keeper Paolo Ceccarelli to the Kansas City.

Damico will arrive in Harrisburg today, and is expected to be available this weekend as the Heat travels to Cleveland (Friday, 7:35 p.m.) and Milwaukee (Sunday, 2:05 p.m. EST).

The 32-year old Damico went 20-14 with a 13.86 points against average for the Comets last year, and was voted to the West Team for the 2002 MISL All-Star Game in Cleveland on February 17 (he saved 11 of 15 shots in the second half of that game, taking the loss).

The native of Kansas City ranks tenth in league history with 98 wins (behind former Heat keeper Doug Petras, who retired last week with 103 career victories). Damico is also sixth in league history with 119 losses.

A graduate of the University of Akron, Damico began his indoor career with the Canton Invaders in 1993-94. He spent three seasons with the Invaders before joining the Wichita Wings in 1996-97, going 24-16 with a 12.20 points against average and establishing himself as a frontline starter.

Since '96-97, Damico boasts a 71-62 record and has finished a season with a record under .500 only once (1998-99, 11-15). Damico, a two-time 20-game winner in this league, spent five seasons in Wichita before joining the Comets last season.
