TRAVERSE CITY - There'll be another familiar face among the Traverse City North Stars players this weekend when the Michigan Warriors visit Centre ICE Arena for a two-game series: Defenseman Zack Dorer.

Dorer, who played 43 games for the Stars in 2010-11, scoring thrice and adding seven assists and a +10 plus-minus rating, re-joins a squad that is developing a blue line corps that had lost rearguards Dorer, Connor Schmidt, Chris Dienes, Curtis Heinz, and two-time captain Travis White after last season. Dorer spent the early season with the USHL's Des Moines Buccaneers.

In a related move, defenseman Ryan Nick was traded to Port Huron for future considerations. Nick had an assists and a +2 rating in three games this year for Traverse City.

"It was one of those deals that was good for everybody," said Stars GM Anthony Palumbo. "Port Huron really wanted Ryan, and we're happy to see him get to be somewhere where they know what we did - that he's a darn good hockey player."

Palumbo says adding Dorer - a Holt, Mich. product and Ferris State University commit - will add some cohesion to a unit that is already playing ahead of schedule.

"We knew coming in that we'd be young on defense, but it's a group that's maturing in a hurry. We're thrilled to add Zack to that mix."

The Stars (4-0-1) face a red-hot Michigan (6-0-1) club for two games - Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Saturday's contest is the first 'Purple for a Purpose' event, with the Stars donning special purple jerseys in observance of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Those game-worn jerseys - and a host of goods and services donated by local businesses - will be part of a silent auction to benefit the Women's Resource Center.
