Zachariah Devon to Pitch for Miners Again in 2019

Zachariah Devon, a senior from Spring Arbor University will return in 2019 for a second straight season to pitch for the West Virginia Miners of the Prospect League, the team announced on the afternoon of November 5. Devon is the seventh player to be signed by the Miners for next league season.
The right-hander joined the Miners late in the season last summer (2018) and appeared in four games (all starts) on the mound. His final 2018 totals for the Beckley, WV-based team saw him throw 19.2 innings resulting in a 2-1 record and a 3.66 earned run average. He struck out 13 hitters versus 14 walks issued.
Devon will arrive in Beckley for the 2019 Prospect League season after the 6-0. 185-pounder completes his senior season at Spring Arbor University, an NAIA school that is a member of the Crossroads League. His collegiate season as a junior in 2018 for the Cougars saw him make 14 appearances (6 starts) enroute to logging a 4-2 record while striking out better than a hitter per inning with 48 strikeouts in 44.1 innings of work.
Prior to arriving at Spring Arbor, the Livonia, MI resident attended Louisburg College, a junior college located in Louisburg, NC.
The Prospect League is the premier collegiate wood bat summer baseball league in the Midwest. It has been operating in its current form since 2009 while serving the summer baseball needs of top collegiate players. The West Virginia Miners, who play at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley, WV, have been a member of the league since the beginning of the 2010 season. The team has reached the postseason playoffs in seven of their nine seasons in the Prospect League to date. These seven postseason appearances have included five trips to the league championship final series with three of the trips resulting with the Miners being crowned as Prospect League Champions (2012, 2013, 2016).
