Youngstown Signs Boumedienne to Tender Agreement
November 28, 2022 - United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release
The Youngstown Phantoms have signed Sascha Boumedienne to a tender agreement for the 2022-23 season. Born in Oulu, Finland, the Swedish national plays defense for the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets where he has recorded 34 points (11-23-34) in 36 games for the U16s this season.
"We are thrilled to have Sascha agree to tender ahead of next summer's draft," Phantoms co-General Manager Ryan Kosecki said. "Sascha is an elite hockey player, who is the total package. He can skate, defend, make plays, and has a bomb of a shot. He currently leads his U16 team in scoring as an '07 (birth year) defenseman. His best quality however is that he is a great human being. We are beyond excited to have Sascha wear a Phantom jersey for the next two years."
The USHL tender process allows teams to sign up to two 2007 birth year players in exchange for their first and second-round picks in the 2023 USHL Phase I Draft, which will take place May 1 2023. Boumedienne's signing will take the place of Youngstown's first-round pick in the 2023 USHL Phase I Draft. If the Phantoms tender a second player, that signing would take the place of a second-round selection in the 2023 USHL Phase I Draft. The final day for USHL teams to sign a tender is April 29, 2023. Each tendered player will be on their respective team's roster the next season and play at least 55% of the team's regular season games.
"I am really excited about playing for the Phantoms," Boumedienne said. "The USHL is a great league and I am honored to have Youngstown believe in me. I'm very excited to spend the next two seasons as a Phantom. I feel like Youngstown is the best fit for me because of how bright the future is for the team and the staff's vision on development. I look forward to the challenge of helping to grow our program to new heights."
Boumedienne becomes the 10th tender in team history, joining Winnipeg Jets forward Kyle Connor on the list on Phantoms who signed agreements.
