Young Returns to Skeeters Following MVP Campaign

SUGAR LAND, TEXAS - The Sugar Land Skeeters and manager Gary Gaetti announced the signing of Delwyn Young prior to the first Spring Training game on Tuesday. The infielder led the team in hits, doubles, home runs and RBI en-route to being named the Skeeters 2014 Team MVP along with First-Team Atlantic League honors. The California native finished third in long balls and fifth in RBI with 20 and 88, respectively.

Young, 32, hit at a .289 clip last season with 25 doubles, four triples and 20 home runs. The switch-hitter spent parts of five seasons at the Major League level with the Dodgers (2006-08) and Pirates (2009-10), hitting for a .258 average with 17 home runs and 81 RBI. In his 13 Minor League seasons, Young owns a .288 average with 152 home runs and 694 RBI over 1,140 games. The infielder was drafted on three separate occasions, eventually signing with the Dodgers after Los Angeles selected him in the fourth-round of the 2002 Draft.

The Skeeters kick off the Spring Training slate with a pair of games against San Jacinto Community College on Tuesday and Wednesday. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and is open to season ticket holders. Wednesday's game will begin at 6:05 p.m., with gates opening at 5 p.m. and walk-up tickets are available for $5.

Additionally, Sugar Land will host three more Spring Training games beginning on Sunday. The Skeeters welcome Alvin Community College to Constellation Field for a pair of games on Sunday and Monday. The first game is slated for 2:05 p.m. on Sunday with Monday's game commencing at 7:05 p.m. Sunday's game will be open to all fans for $5 while Monday's contest will be open to season ticket holders only. The Skeeters conclude the preseason slate on Tuesday against Wharton Junior College at 7:05 p.m. and will be open to the general public for $5.
