Chicago Machine News Release
CHICAGO, IL - The Chicago Machine returns home to TOYOTA PARK on Sunday, July 20, 2008, to face the Los Angeles Riptide (5-3) in a battle of Major League Lacrosse Western Division rivals. LA has won the first two meetings of the teams this season, 10-9 at the Home Depot Center in LA on May 25, and 18-16 at TOYOTA PARK on July 6. Chicago hopes that the 3rd time's the charm as All-Stars Kevin Leveille, Mike Gable and Steven Brooks lead the team against the potent Riptide. Face-off is at 3:30 pm and tickets are still available by calling (312) 255-1522.
Last Saturday (July 12) The San Francisco Dragons (2-7) defeated the Machine (2-7) by the score of 17-14 at Spartan Stadium, winning the series 2-1. Despite the loss, the young Machine team came away achieving some more milestones. The team scored four power play goals out of five opportunities. Rookie goalie Bud Petit started his first MLL career game and came up with 20 saves. Rookie Mike Leveille earned his first MLL career hat-trick and rookie Terry Kimener added his second hat-trick of the season. All-Star Kevin Leveille extended his scoring streak dating back to 2004. The Machine rookie class continues to shine, having contributed 70 points and 33 goals in seven games this season.
Los Angeles surprised the division-leading Outlaws last week, defeating Denver 16-6. LA's own rookie phenom Kevin Huntley was named the Cascade Rookie of the Week for the third time this season. Returning to Chicago to test the Machine's defense is a swarm of Riptide attackers consisting of Jesse Hubbard, Chazz Woodson and Kyle Harrison. Chicago struggled at times against LA on July 6 but managed a 6-1 run in the 3rd quarter that put them in the lead. Head Coach John Combs' team will look to avoid an early deficit, maintain the intensity, and send the Riptide back to LA with their fourth loss of the season.
All-Star End Note: Chicago Machine players Kevin Leveille (Attack), Mike Gabel (Goalie) and Rookie Steven Brooks (Midfielder) will play in the Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game in Denver on July 17. The Chicago Machine will preview that game and the players this coming week at www.chicagomachine.com and provide during- and post-game highlights online.
