Yankees Surrender Seven Run Fifth

April 11, 2012 - International League (IL1)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release

Buffalo - The Buffalo Bisons hit four home runs off Yankees starter Dellin Betances, including three in a seven run five hit fourth inning as the Bisons won the opening game of the three game series by a 12-3 score.

Betances had great control in his 2012 debut against Lehigh Valley walking one opposing hitter in 5.0 innings in a no decision. Wednesday afternoon the right hander walked six and allowed seven hits on route to giving up eight earned runs, a season high for a Yankees pitcher.

Zach Lutz hit a pair of homers for Buffalo on the afternoon, a lead off homer off Betances in the second inning and a two run homer in the seven run fourth inning off SWB reliever Jason Bulger. Jordany Valdespin and Valentino Pascucci also homered off Betances who was lifted with one out in the fourth inning after throwing 89 pitches on the afternoon.

The Yankees lone runs came on a Dewayne Wise homer that gave Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a short-lived 3-2 lead in the top of the third inning. Wise hit a towering shot down the line in right field off Buffalo starter Jeurys Familia for his second homer of the season.

Colin Curtis and Chris Dickerson had four game hitting streaks ended on the afternoon. Dickerson was lifted from the game in the bottom of the fifth inning after crashing into the right center field wall. He was replaced by Ray Kruml but was able to walk off the field under his own power.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre continues their three game series Thursday afternoon at Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo with a 1:05 PM first pitch against the Bisons. Left hander Manny Banuelos (0-1, 10.80 ERA) makes his second start of the season for the Yankees, while the Bisons will counter with right hander Chris Schwinden (1-0, 0.00 ERA).
