Xplorers Use Key Plays to Get Past Battle Wings

Southaven, MS-The Memphis Xplorers of the af2 defeated the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings 47-27 in front of 3,451 fans at the DeSoto Civic Center Saturday night.

Offensive MVP, WR/LB Sále Key, led Memphis with seven catches for 94 yards and two touchdowns. He caught his first touchdown on the Xplorers opening play in the first quarter.

Defensively, Dahnel Singfield was brilliant for the Xplorers. Singfield had four solo tackles, one assisted tackle, an interception, which he nearly returned for a touchdown, and seven pass deflections. He was named the ADT Defensive Player of the Game.

Coming off his US Army Ironman Player of the Week was Terrell Adams, who earned the honor for the third consecutive game. Adams recorded five solo tackles, one assisted tackle, and three pass breakups. One of those tackles was for a two-yard loss. On offense, Adams ran the ball for eight yards, and caught one pass for six-yards

"I thought that the defense played much better in the second half," said Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto. "Whenever you keep a team scoreless in a half, you are happy as a coach."

With the win, Memphis (13-3) clinched home field advantage throughout the National Conference playoffs. Memphis had a one-game lead over the Tulsa Talons coming into this game. The Battle Wings ended their season at 3-13.

Prior to the start of the game, the DeSoto Civic Center unveiled the 2005 Mid West Division Champion Banner for the Xplorers.

The Xplorers are 2005 Mid West Division Champions. Their first home playoff game in franchise history will take place on Friday August 12th at 7:30pm at the DeSoto Civic Center.
