Xplorers stay number one for second straight week

June 1, 2005 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - The Memphis Xplorers held on to the No.1 ranking in this week's Coaches Poll garnering 216 of a possible 228 points, the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today. This is the second consecutive week that Memphis has been voted into the top spot.

The Xplorers' total included 12 first-place votes, up four from last week. The No.2 spot goes to Manchester who is just four points behind Memphis with 212 points including six first-place votes. Receiving one first place tally and securing the No.3 ranking, the Florida Firecats received 192 points. The only other team that received a first-place vote was the Central Valley Coyotes (1).

The arenafootball2 Week 10 schedule features four matchups of Top 12 teams. On Friday night at 8:00 p.m. No.4 Blizzard hosts the No.10 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers at the Resch Center in Green Bay. At 8:30 p.m. on Saturday night the No.8 ranked Rio Grande Valley Dorados travel to Oklahoma City to face the No.11 ranked Yard Dawgz. Also on Saturday at 8:30, the No.12 Quad City Steamwheelers host the No.5 Louisville Fire at the Mark of the Quad Cities. Finally, on Saturday night at 10:30, the No.6 Tulsa Talons head to Fresno to take on the No.9 ranked Central Valley Coyotes. All Times Eastern.

Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 12 teams in the league by ranking them one through 12 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 12 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 12th would receive one point. Total points will determine the Top 12 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes will be ranked higher. The af2 Coaches Poll will be announced every Tuesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification.

The complete Top 12 is listed below. The number in parentheses indicates the number of first place votes the team received.
