Memphis Xplorers News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS- The Memphis Xplorers of af2 were unable to overcome a determined Cape Fear Wildcats offense, losing 46-35 before a crowd of 3,015 at the DeSoto Civic Center.

Memphis, trying to move within a half-game of the Mid-South Division lead, was outscored 21-3 over the final 16 minutes of the football game. The Wildcats were able to hold on to the ball for an astonishing 37:05, keeping the Xplorers offense off the field for much of the contest.

Wildcats QB Michael Gluski was a steady force in the contest, completing 26 of 40 passes for 268 yards, four touchdowns and one interception and earning Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game honors.

Memphis's offense was led by OS Kevin Prentiss, who caught 4 passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Prentiss was also able to return a kick for a 58-yard touchdown, his first kickoff return for a score since May 15th and his seventh on the season. Prentiss is now one return touchdown away from tying the all-time af2 record for touchdowns in a season.

Cape Fear's offense had 30 more plays on the night than Memphis, and outgained the Xplorers 274 to 146.

Xplorers WR/LB Ryan Karr, with one interception on the night, was named the ADT Defensive Player of the game. Cape Fear OL/DL Lawrence Lewis was named the Army Ironman of the Game.

The loss dropped the Xplorers to 7-6 on the season. Cape Fear moved to 9-3 with the win. The Xplorers will have a bye week next week, and will be back in action again next Friday, July 16th, as they travel to Arkansas to take on the Twisters.
