Memphis Xplorers News Release
SOUTHAVEN, Miss â The Memphis Xplorers announced today that they have been assigned 12 players by af2 to fill the WR / DB positions. Former Memphis Tigers Keith and Kevin Cobb highlight the defensive backfield while Carlos McNeary returns for his third season with the Xplorers. The Xplorers 2003 af2 home opener is April 12th against the Bakersfield Blitz. Call (662) 280-3737 for more information.
"The Cobbs are going to be our defensive specialists," Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto said. "Kevin has experience running the middle in the AFL and they are a pair of proven leaders for our defense. Kevin got caught up in a salary cap deal at a higher level and for us to get him was a blessing, he has great technique and will be a real boost to our defense."
Kevin and Keith are identical twins. Kevin won an ESPY for Play of the Year in 1996 while playing for the Memphis Tigers when he returned a kickoff for a touchdown against the University of Tennessee.
On the offensive side of the ball the Xplorers expect to get a boost from veteran wideout McNeary.
"McNeary is a local guy with great technique," Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator Steve Matthews said. "He has worked hard in the offseason and we expect big things out of him this year with Cleo Lemon throwing him the ball."
