Xplorers assigned speedy receiver/kick returner

SOUTHAVEN --- The Memphis Xplorers of af2 announced today that the league office has assigned them Wide Receiver/Kick Returner Steven Rush out of Southwest Missouri State. Rush is the third player assigned to the Xplorers in the last week.

Rush, 5-foot-10 and 205 pounds, finished his college career in 2004 fourth on SMS's career touchdown receptions list, seventh on SMS's all-time receiving yards list and tenth on the career receptions list. The Omaha, Nebraska native was also a Gateway Conference all-conference wide receiver and an all-conference honorable mention kick returner. He was also the Bears' leading receiver and kick returner his junior and senior seasons.

"We think that Steven can be a real playmaker for us," Xplorers Head Coach Danton Barto said. "He has the speed, size and strength to do it all."

The former Omaha North High star also holds the eighth highest single-game all-purpose yardage total in NCAA Division I-AA history with 410 yards versus Illinois State on November 8, 2003.
