SOUTHAVEN --- The Memphis Xplorers of af2 announced today that they have been assigned WR/DB Tavaris Capers by the league office. Capers is 5-foot-9, 180 pounds and played his college ball at Central Florida. He was in camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL prior to the 2005 season.

"Tavaris is a receiver with unbelievable speed and explosion," Memphis Head Coach Danton Barto said. "We believe that he will be an exciting player for us and our fans this upcoming season."

Capers finished his career at UCF with 157 receptions for 1717 yards and 17 touchdowns. His junior season was his best as he led the Golden Knights in all major receiving categories: receptions (67), receiving yards (585) and touchdowns (7). He was also the team's main punt returner his junior and senior seasons, averaging 9.1 yards on 35 returns. Capers was one of the fastest players for UCF with a 4.29 forty-yard dash.

Capers is the 13th player to be assigned to the Xplorers by the af2.
