Wyoming Cavalry Responds to Teams Leaving The NIFL

November 18, 2004 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Wyoming Cavalry News Release

CASPER, WY - In various press conferences on Nov. 17, it was announced that a few of the current NIFL teams decided to leave the NIFL to pursue another league.

How does this affect the Wyoming Cavalry and the NIFL?

Very little, if at all. The NIFL is still the second largest indoor football league in the United States, behind the AFL, and the league is entering its fifth year.

The Wyoming Cavalry is strong and has no intention of defecting or folding.

The teams in question made a decision based on philosophical differences with the direction of the NIFL. The business plan five years ago when the the NIFL was formed was to find locations and teams so that it could be a bus league - in order to have teams travel a short distance to play one another.

As with any business venture, variables change, business plans are updated, and adjustments for growth are made...this is how business is done. So, over the past five years, with the positive attention of astute business owners, the NIFL has been expanding throughout the United States.

This year teams from Washington, Texas and Florida were added...owners with financial strength and solid business backgrounds.

So, what does this mean?

The effect of adding these teams means airplanes, not buses, will be needed in some instances to travel to play each other. It also means a new caliber of play is ahead for fans of the NIFL. If you've followed the NIFL over the past five years, you've already noticed a difference in the level of play and a difference in the level of players...a positive difference, a welcomed difference.

The Wyoming Cavalry is happy and proud to be able to put players on airplanes for a more comfortable ride. Our players will see new cities and make new enemies on the field. Our fans will see different teams and make new rivalries.

But, what about the added costs of travel? The added costs are not as high as you might think. The Wyoming Cavalry's travel budget is already probably higher than most teams, including those that chose to leave. Bus rides to Omaha, NE were not cheap...and not comfortable.

Because of the strength of the NIFL, the league was able to procure air far rates at a much reduced price, making the slight increase in travel expenses affordable.

But, is the League stable?

Of course. Every business has strengths. Every business has something they could do better. Every business is faced with obstacles, problems and opportunities. The NIFL is no different than any other business.

The NIFL has a dedicated team at the corporate office doing what they think is best for the members. NIFL teams have owners, employees, and volunteers doing what they think is best for their teams.

Do mistakes happen? Occasionally. Will mistakes happen? Probably. Unfortunately, neither the NIFL nor the individual teams can claim immunity from the same day-to-day business issues that other businesses face. It's reality. It's how you handle the situations and opportunities that make the difference.
