WV HS Player of Year Signs with WV Miners

October 24, 2018 - Prospect League (Prospect) - West Virginia Miners News Release

West Virginia's 2018 High School Player of the Year will be wearing the colors of the West Virginia Miners during the upcoming 2019 Prospect League season with the announcement by the Beckley-based team on October 24 of the commitment from Ross Mulhall of La Salle University.

Now only a college freshman, Mulhall brings quite a resume' and list of honors to the Miners next summer following his collegiate debut at La Salle, which is located in Philadelphia and a member of the NCAA D-I Atlantic-10 Conference.

He played his high school baseball right here in West Virginia and is a 2018 graduate of University High School in Morgantown, WV. His high school senior season in 2018 for the Hawks saw him post lofty numbers in 28 games that included a .472 batting average (42-for-89), 12 doubles, 11 homers, and 44 RBI.

Mulhall's memorable high school senior season was topped off by him being named as 2018 Gatorade High School Baseball Player of the Year for the state of West Virginia. As part of his award, a $1000.00 grant in his name was donated to a charitable organization of his choice. He selected "Stepping Stones at Mylan Park," a non-profit organization that provides year-round recreation for children and adults with disabilities.

The Prospect League is the premier collegiate wood bat summer baseball league in the Midwest. It has been operating in its current form since 2009 while serving the summer baseball needs of top collegiate players. The West Virginia Miners, who play at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley, WV, have been a member of the league since the beginning of the 2010 season. The team has reached the postseason playoffs in seven of their nine seasons in the Prospect League to date. These seven postseason appearances have included five trips to the league championship final series with three of the trips resulting with the Miners being crowned as Prospect League Champions (2012, 2013, 2016).

Season-long box seats and other ticket packages for the West Virginia Miners are already on sale for the 2019 Prospect League season. Persons needing more information on the Miners can contact the team either by e-mail at or by telephone at 304-252-SAFE (7233).
