Austin Wranglers News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI- In battle between two teams that were tied for first place and in a game that saw twelve lead changes, the Austin Wranglers continued their winning streak on the road against Corpus Christi in a 49-45 victory. The Sharks surrendered their share of 1st place in the Southwest Division of the National Conference Saturday night at Radiology Associated Field at the American Bank Center.

The Wranglers struck first when Andy Hall snuck into the endzone for a 1-yard touchdown run. Corpus Christi answered by completing two touchdown passes from quarterback Fran Johnson to end the first period of play with the Sharks on top 12-7.

The night would prove to be one of the best for Wranglers fullback Kamau Jackson. Coming off a win against Bossier-Shreveport last week, where he earned JLS Ironman of the Week for the league, Jackson powered his way into the endzone with a two yard touchdown run and his first of three on the night. Never to go quietly, the Sharks answered right back when QB Johnson found Brandon Hussey on the first play of their possession for a 30-yard touchdown catch.

The second half was a see-saw of scoring between the Wranglers and Sharks. Kamua Jackson continued his night of tough running, opening the third quarter with a 5-yard touchdown to give the Wranglers the lead. Sharks' Johnson again found a deep receiver for a 22-yard touchdown pass, the forth touchdown pass on the night for Johnson, who would record six on the game.

The Wranglers entered the final period in a heated battle for sole possession of first place, with the Sharks on top 27-32. Austin quarterback Hall recorded his first touchdown pass of the game when he found Mel Long for a 23-yard touchdown reception, and the lead once again. Sharks' Johnson continued his night of touchdown passing when he found Jonathan Graham for a 5-yard score, giving the Sharks the lead 42-39 with 6:35 on the clock

With the back and forth scoring between the Wranglers and Sharks, the team who scored last would emerge victorious. Late in the game, Corpus Christi's Kenyada Tatum capped off a 4-yard touchdown run and moved the Sharks ahead of the Wranglers 42-45.

Showing only 14 seconds on the clock, the Wranglers topped off the night when Kamau Jackson found the endzone for a game winning 7-yard touchdown run. Wranglers' defense, lead by Demetrie McCray who recorded six total tackles on the night, had a juggernaut performance, holding off the Sharks to grab the victory 49-45.

Next week, the Wranglers travel west to Fresno, California to face the Central Valley Coyotes for a 9:00 p.m. kickoff. The Wranglers will be back in Austin June 28th when they'll host Southwest Division rival the Texas Copperheads. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at U.S. Army Field at the Frank Erwin Center.
