SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze have been assigned WR Mario Urrutia, the franchise announced Friday afternoon. Urrutia enters his rookie season in the Arena Football League after three seasons in the National Football League.

"We're excited to add Mario to our roster," stated Head Coach Ron James. "He brings a fantastic combination of size and speed. His success will depend on how quickly he is able to adjust to our system, but we feel he's a player with a lot of potential."

Urrutia was selected in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals and spent his entire rookie season on the practice squad. He enjoyed stints with the Bengals and New York Jets the following offseason before joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Urrutia was on the practice squad with the Bucs for the majority of the 2009 season, but was elevated to the active roster for three games.

The Kentucky native played collegiately at the University of Louisville, where he still ranks sixth in school history in receiving yards (2,271) and seventh in touchdowns (16). Urrutia was a two-time All-Big East selection for the Cardinals after posting 95 receptions for 1,770 yards and 13 scores over his first two seasons.
