WPS Rosters Announced League-Wide
March 25, 2009 - Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) News Release
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (March 25, 2009) - March 25 was the final day for teams to report their Opening Day rosters, which are a maximum of 18 players on each team's roster + 4 developmental players. Several of the big names from the 1999 World Cup team made WPS squads, including Kristine Lilly (Boston Breakers), Briana Scurry (Washington Freedom), Brandi Chastain (FC Gold Pride) and Tiffeny Milbrett (FC Gold Pride). Not surprisingly, among colleges, the University of North Carolina led all schools with 12 former players landing a place on WPS rosters or developmental slots. A total of nine countries will be represented on WPS opening day rosters. Along with the Americans, players are coming from Brazil (9), Canada (6), Australia (5), England (5), Sweden (4), Japan (3), France (2) and China (1).
