Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - Thanks to a great start from Vance Worley and another double-digit offensive effort, the Kane County Cougars earned a series victory over the Lake Country DockHounds with an 11-4 win in front of 7,229 fans on Saturday night at Northwestern Medicine Field.

In his fourth straight quality start, Worley (4-3) held the DockHounds (17-29) to just one run on six hits, while striking out five hitters against two walks. Over nine starts this season, Worley has only allowed four runs or more in just two starts. Following Worley's departure, Koby Bishop and C.J. Carter finished out the game for the Cougars (24-21). Carter struck out the side in a perfect ninth inning to end the ballgame.

After scoring 23 runs last night, the Cougar bats broke out once again in the bottom of the third against DockHounds' starter Francisco Jimenez (3-4). With one out, Galli Cribbs started a chain of four straight singles, with Steve Lombardozzi and Cornelius Randolph knocking in runs to make it 2-0. Later in the inning, two runs came in to score on an RBI fielder's choice from Sherman Johnson to make it 4-0.

The Cougars added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. After Josh Rolette doubled and Alexis Pantoja singled, Ernie De La Trinidad drove them both in with an RBI single to make it 6-0. In the fifth, Cribbs Jr. drove in two more on a broken bat single to push the lead to 8-0. Jimmy Kerrigan added to the lead with an RBI single in the sixth to make it 9-0.

In the top of the seventh, the DockHounds finally got on the board against Worley on an RBI single by Lamar Briggs. However, the Cougars responded with two more runs in the bottom half. Cribbs drove in his third run of the ballgame with a sacrifice fly before Lombardozzi knocked in another with a single to make it 11-1.

Lake Country did cut into the lead with three runs in the top of the eighth, including a two-run homer by Gio Brusa. However, the Cougars had plenty of breathing room to claim a second straight win and series victory.

The series with DockHounds concludes on Sunday night. Left-hander Evan Kruczynski (3-1, 3.60 ERA) will take on Cougars' right-hander Jose Fuentes (2-1, 2.50 ERA) with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. For tickets call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com/tickets.
