World Lacrosse Championships update
July 17, 2006 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release
LONDON, Ont. - While Team USA and Iroquois Nation battled it out in the sweltering heat of TD Waterhouse Stadium at the World Lacrosse Championships in London Monday afternoon, fans kept cool in the stands cheering on their favourite team.
Tracy Marr, whose husband Scott is an assistant coach for Team USA was catching a breeze high in the stands with her daughters Jordyn (8) and Keeley (5). The Albany, N.Y. resident who"didn't expect it to be so hot" planned a trip to Lie Erie later in the week to escape the heat. "It's got to be cooler there," she said with a laugh. "But I will be back tomorrow to cheer on the Americans."
Casey Lasda, a 15 year-old high school student and lacrosse player from Syracuse, New York, was sipping on a drink and pumping up the Iroquois Nation.
"I always cheer for the underdog," he said. "I'd love to see them pull an upset."
Stamford, Connecticut native Bill Trabakino was enjoying his first trip to London and clearly on the side of the U.S. "I'm here to support the team and cheer them on," he said. "Besides, one of my best friends is one of their coaches."
Even Brendan Farrell, who had made the trek all the way from Melbourne, Australia, had a favourite. "I'm for the Iroquois Nation," he said. "But I must admit I am a little surprised at the weather. It's a lot more humid than I thought it would be."
In the end the American fans escaped the heat and departed with a victory as Team USA prevailed by a final count of 21-13.
