COACHES:
Augusta: Bubba Diggs (2nd year, 14-15). Diggs was a member of Clemson's 1981 national championship and spent time in the USFL (Washington Federals) and NFL (San Diego Chargers). The Augusta native coached for his hometown's af2 team, the Stallions as well as the Columbus WarDogs.:
Columbus: Jason Gibson (1st with team, 3rd overall 22-18). An All-American receiver at Fairmont State University, Gibson went on to play in the CFL with the BC Lions and Toronto Argonauts then had a stint in Europe before coming to indoor ranks with Albany (AFL) and two af2 teams. He began his coaching career with the Greensboro Prowlers (af2) before taking the reigns of the Raleigh Rebels (AIFL) in 2005

GAME 1: AUGUSTA 49, COLUMBUS 45: Marvin Stone's 14-yard touchdown from Brandon Satcher with 23 seconds remaining lifted the Augusta Spartans to a 49-45 victory over the Columbus Lions before 5,200 at the James Brown Arena Saturday, March 24.Stone finished with six catches for 37 yards and three touchdowns. Satcher, who threw an interception on his first play coming off the bench, completed his next eight passes for 108 yards and four touchdowns. Columbus erased an 11-point deficit to take a 45-42 lead on Roshard Gilyard's 9-yard fumble recovery with 4:14 remaining before Augusta drove seven plays for the go-ahead score and then denied the Lions on the game's final play. Anthony Young caught six passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns for the Spartans, while Willie Butler rushed for one score. Richard Dykes had a 50-yard kickoff return and kicker Shon Rowser was 5-7 on PAT attempts and converted two "UNOs" - putting the ball through the upright on a kickoff. Silas Daniels caught three touchdown passes from Andrew McKay and finished with 100 yards on eight catches. Mahlon Carey had two interceptions, one for a 50-yard touchdown that helped the Lions turn a 15-7 first quarter deficit into a 28-21 halftime lead.
GAME 2: COLUMBUS 69, AUGUSTA 30: Joey Conrad threw three touchdown passes, Eugene Goodman scored three times, and the Columbus Lions defense scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns in a 69-30 rout of the Augusta Spartans. Conrad completed 8 of 12 passes for 109 yards as the Lions (4-1) scored on their first seven possessions to remain on top the WIFL standings and exact some revenge for their only loss of the season to the Spartans two weeks ago. Silas Daniels had six receptions for 66 yards and two touchdowns and Juval Winston had three catches for 61 yards and one touchdown.
Goodman had 34 yards and his two rushing touchdown while returning a third-quarter kickoff return for a touchdown and setting up an earlier score with a long return. The Lions finished with the highest point total in the WIFL this season thanks to three fourth-quarter touchdowns on Justin Rivers and Cedric Ware interceptions and Ian Kinsey's fumble recovery. Brandon Satcher threw for 217 yards and three touchdowns for Augusta. Marvin Stone has 12 catches for 144 yards and two touchdowns.
GAME 3: AUGUSTA 48, COLUMBUS 19: Mike Rathe threw six touchdown passes for the second straight week, and the Augusta Spartans defense held the Columbus Lions to the lowest scoring output of the season for a 48-19 victory before 3,883 at James Brown Arena. Using a Ralph Scott blocked field goal recovery for a touchdown and Rathe connecting with all three receivers for scores, the Spartans (4-3) jumped out to a 29-0 lead to remain unbeaten in three home games and defeat the first place Lions (5-2) for the second time this season. Two weeks, Columbus won 69-30. In addition to giving up just 19 points, the Spartan defense held Columbus' quarterbacks to a combined 13 of 36 passing. Richard Dykes and Kijana Thomas each registered an interception. Columbus closed to 29-13 on Mahlon Carey's interception return with 4:41 remaining in the first half, then had a chance to close to within one score. Augusta's defense made a stop, and then Rathe hit Marvin Stone for an 18-yard touchdown with no time remaining to give Augusta a 35-13 halftime lead. Rathe was 16 of 33 for 194 yards, with four of his touchdowns going to league-leading receiver Marvin Stone (nine catches for 126 yards) and one each to Anthony Young (5-53) and Rod Price (2-15). Jarwarski Pollock had seven catches for 75 yards and one touchdown for Columbus.
GAME 4: COLUMBUS 56, AUGUSTA 37: Joey Conrad threw four touchdown passes and Ramone Nickerson returned two Augusta Spartans interceptions for touchdowns in the first half as the Columbus Lions defeated the Augusta Spartans 56-37 before 1,633 at AFLAC Field at the Columbus Civic Center.
Nickerson's picks were a part of a league-record 49-point first half that helped Columbus (8-2) remain unbeaten at home and clinch a home playoff berth. Four first-half turnovers helped Columbus take a 49-14 halftime lead.Conrad was 8-for-19 passing for 97 yards, with Jordan Slye catching six of those passes for 58 yards and two touchdowns.
