Huntsville Flight News Release
HUNTSVILLE, AL (October 29, 2003) â A world record could fall at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville on Friday, November 21. Tennessee Valley-area cheer groups will attempt to set the world cheer record at the Huntsville Flight's 2003-04 season opener against the Columbus RiverDragons.
According to Team Turbulence coach Julie Holland, the event is a tribute to the hundreds of kids who participate in cheer, dance and gymnastics. "Having seen the many talented athletes from our area who participate in dance and cheer, this is a fitting way to recognize their commitment and accomplishments," Luttermoser said. "With help from the community, we believe we can break this record."
The world cheer record attempt will be part of NBA TV's national television broadcast of the game between the Flight and the RiverDragons. The current record is 328 people sustaining a continuous cheer for five minutes.
Also in attendance opening night will be 1,000 kids from the Boys & Girls Club. The kids' tickets were provided by area businesses through the Flight's "Tickets for Kids" program.
The first 400 kids to register for the record-setting attempt will receive a complimentary ticket to the game. To date, 150 kids are registered to participate in the attempt.
To register or for more information, contact the Huntsville Flight at 429-1000.
