AUGUST 20th WORCESTER (27-19)/(63-54) at SYRACUSE (22-24)/(60-61) 6:35 pm
Worcester Red Sox RHP Gage Ziehl (1-1, 2.53) vs. Syracuse Mets RHP Kevin Hergert (0-0, 3.38)
Won Apiece - The Worcester Red Sox snapped their 4-game losing streak with a come-from-behind, 9-7 victory last night to even their 6-game series with the Syracuse Mets at a win apiece with game three slated for tonight at 6:35 pm at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse, NY. Last night the WooSox overcame a 5-1 deficit with a 6-run 5th-inning uprising en route to their 28th come-from-behind victory of the season, 9-7. The win came after a 5-1 setback on Tuesday night in the series-opener in the fastest 9-inning game of the season (1 hour & 59 minutes). The Sox and Mets play the next three nights all at 6:35 pm before the series and Sox roadtrip finale on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 pm. Tonight's game can be heard back in New England on NASH 98.9 FM and the rest of the WooSox Radio Network.
Go Fourth - Worcester's win last night ended their 4-game losing skid and avoided matching their season-high 5-game losing streak for the fourth different time this season. After not losing two in a row during an 18-game stretch between July 22 - August 9, the WooSox dropped 4 straight games from last Friday to this Tuesday for the first time in seven weeks since they matched their season-long 5-game losing streak from June 23-27 (all at home vs. Toledo).
Story Time with IKF - Boston Red Sox INF Trevor Story went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored last night playing shortstop for his third game on rehab with the WooSox (he is now 3-for-9 in those three games). He was joined last night by fellow rehabbing Red Sox infielder Isiah Kiner- Falefa who was 1-for-3 with a walk and run scored as the second baseman.
Kiner-Falefa will bat second and play shortstop tonight while Story is not in the WooSox starting lineup.
Kiner-Falefa has been on Boston's injured list since June 19 with left forearm inflammation that was ultimately diagnosed as a stress reaction in his left ulna bone. Story has been on the Red Sox injured list since May 15 with a sports hernia that eventually required surgery.
IKF hit .277 with 2 HR, 13 RBI, and 7 SB in 47 games for the Red Sox this season including 27 games at 2B, 16 at SS, 8 at 3B, 1 at 1B, and 1 as the DH. His last game was June 18 vs. Toronto when he went 1-for-3 with a HR. He was placed on the 10-day IL on June 20 (retro to June 19) and then transferred to the 60-day IL on August 11.
Story, 33, played in 41 games for the Red Sox this season batting .206 with 3 HR & 19 RBI. He had an excellent season in 2025 hitting .263 with 25 HR & 96 RBI in 157 games.
