July 23, 2008 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Atlanta Silverbacks News Release
The Atlanta Silverbacks Women will host the W-League Eastern Conference Semifinals and Championship this upcoming weekend. Along with the championship, a berth is on the line for the W-League Semifinals and Championship in Virginia Beach.
In arguably the toughest conference, the weekend will feature defending champions Washington Freedom, Charlotte Lady Eagles, Boston Renegades or Long Island Rough Riders, and 2007 finalist Atlanta Silverbacks.
Washington (11-1-2) is led by former U.S. National Team member Christie Welsh, who has scored nine goals on the year and leads the league with 81 shots. The Lady Eagles (11-2-1) have dropped just two games this year, both coming at the hands of the Atlanta. The Silverbacks (13-0-1), meanwhile, are undefeated and will play the winner of tonight's match between the Boston (9-3-2) and Long Island (9-3-2).
The weekend at Atlanta Silverbacks Park is certain to have loads of offensive firepower, with three of the top three scorers in the league. Atlanta's Sarah Steinmann leads the league in goals scored (19), while Charlotte's Kelly Schmedes ranks second with (14). The Silverbacks' Christine Latham is third in the league with 13 goals scored in 13 games.
Tickets for Friday's doubleheader can be purchased for just $10. Tickets for Saturday's match are set at $15, and a Weekend Pass for all three games is only $20.
