Manchester Wolves News Release
WOLVES FIRST TRYOUT CAMP A SUCCESS; BEN BENNETT INKS QB SHAWN BRADY
"Shawn earned his shot based on his performance at the tryout," Wolves Head Coach Ben Bennett said. "Now the rest is going to be up to him, he has to come to camp in shape and ready to compete again."
Brady (6'2, 205), will compete in March for a roster spot at the quarterback position after putting together a stellar career (2001-2004) at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts where the right-hander left his mark on 16 different school records. The Peabody, MA native left Northeastern as one of the most decorated quarterbacks in school history, currently ranking second in passing yards (6,630), second in pass completions (462), first in touchdown passes (54), first in interception percentage (27 INTs in 847 attempts), third in completion percentage (54.5%), and second in total offense (6,999).
"This was my first-ever professional tryout camp, and I'm just happy that I performed well," said Brady, who had extra motivation as his parents were watching in attendance. "I can't wait to get started and play for a team that is nice and close to my home so that my family can attend all the games."
Due to the success and demand of the Wolves first tryout, that brought players in from as far as Ontario-Canada, Wheaton-Illinois, and Warwick-Rhode Island, the team will hold another workout in late January or early February. Details of that tryout will be announced when they become available.
"This was hands down the most talented tryout camp that I've seen since I've been in Manchester," added Bennett. "There was at least another six guys out there that have af2 potential and a chance to make our camp in March, hopefully they'll work on the things I taught them today and come back to our next tryout in a couple months."
Brady now joins Offensive Specialist Jarrail Jackson, who was signed late last week, as the first two announced players on the Manchester Wolves 2007 roster.
Jackson (5'9", 195), comes to Manchester after an impressive two-year stay (2005, 2006) in Oklahoma City where he quickly established himself as one of the league's best Offensive Specialists. During his two seasons for the National Conference Yard Dawgz, Jackson led all team receivers in both catches and yards while also proving to be their main threat on kick returns. In total the Houston, TX native collected 264 receptions for 3,340 yards and 72 touchdowns as a wide receiver and 2,951 yards and six touchdowns as a kick returner. Jackson's all-purpose yards, 3,372 in 2005 and 3,221 in 2006, ranked him first in the league and for his all-around efforts he was honored with two National Conference First Team ALL-af2 awards (Special Teams in 2005, Offensive Specialist in 2006).
