Stockton Wolves News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif---With five games remaining in the 2010 season, the San Jose Wolves control their own destiny.

However, four of their final five contests are on the road, which is something that they may have to get used to in order to make the championship game.

At 7-2, the Wolves are firmly entrenched in second place in the American Indoor Football Association's Western Division and start the final stretch of the schedule with a content in Washington state at the 4-6 Wenatchee Valley Venom.

The Venom have been revitalized under newly appointed head coach Brian Smith who guided Wenatchee Valley to a near upset of the Wolves at the Cow Palace in his first game. Since that game, the Venom have put it all together demolishing the Ogden Knights 94-0 and taking care of the Yakima Valley Warriors 60-49 to pull even with the Warriors and just a half game behind the Arctic Predators.

Still, their playoff hopes ride largely in the hands of the Wolves who could lose three of the final five games and still secure the Western Division's second and final playoff spot. A Wolves' win this week in Wenatchee would eliminate the Venom.

The Wolves are coming off a bye week and expect to return key pieces from injury including linebacker Marvin Brown. San Jose's offense lit up the scoreboard during the four-game home stand in May, putting up 253 points including the two wins over the Venom.

While San Jose rolled easily in the first contest, the last time these teams met was a much different story. The Wolves' defense struggled to make stops, and San Jose needed a last second field goal from Ben Hansen to secure the win.

Wenatchee has been a completely different team under coach Smith. Quarterback Devin Hollins has the offense firing on all cylinders thanks to an amazing 17-1 touchdown to interception ratio. Franchise receiver Phil Goodman and stellar wide out Maurice Bryant have combined for nine touchdowns in the three weeks that Hollins has taken the snaps. Tim Simmons has caught five touchdown passes in the past two weeks.

With both teams clicking offensively, the final meeting of the season promises to provide plenty of fireworks in a classic indoor football showcase.

Wolves fans can watch the game on U-Stream with pre-game starting five minutes prior to kickoff at 6:55 pm. The link will provided on sanjosewolves.com Saturday morning.
