Stockton Wolves News Release
CASPER, Wyom---The big game is finally here.
After a 7-1 start launched the San Jose Wolves atop the Western Division standings, it seemed like the rest of the season was just a formality before the post-season. But a 2-4 finish to the season had the Wolves holding on rather than building up.
On the flip side, the Wyoming Cavalry proved to be the class of the West by winning their first 12 games before finally losing to Wenatchee after receiving almost a month off due to forfeit victories.
Sunday July 11th will be the fourth time the Cavalry and Wolves meet in 2010 with three of those meetings in Casper where the Wolves have had little success. In fact Wyoming has foiled San Jose at almost every turn. The Cav's handed the Wolves their first loss back in April. In May, Wyoming became the first visiting team to win in the Cow Palace and they capped of the regular season sweep on Independence day.
However, San Jose is the only team to score over 50 points against the Cavalry and the Wolves' starting unit has been a handful for opposing defenses throughout the year. Injuries have been the main culprit as almost all of the Wolves' receivers have missed a game but San Jose figures to return both A.J. Bennett and Reggie Eubanks Sunday in addition to Jayson Boyd, Jerome McGee Jr., and Deral Miller who had solid performances in the loss last week.
The Wolves defense also will be at full strength. Linebacker Rakine Toomes played well in the loss and the return of Alex Wallace figures to sure up the secondary that was roughed up one week ago.
San Jose's biggest advantage may be that the Wolves are at full strength for the first time in over a month. While each team tried not to tip their hand much in the regular season finale, the roster tweaks may be enough to swing the tide.
Wyoming has played well with a core group of players that sit in the top 3 in nearly every category offensively. But three forfeit wins in between contests against the Wolves kept the Cavalry from continuing to grow at the rate they expected.
The Wolves hope to take advantage of both the Cav's inactivity and San Jose's replenished roster when the teams play Sunday night at 6:05 MDT and 5:05 PDT at the Casper Events Center. The game can be seen on the Wolves U-Stream Chanel starting at 5:00 pm on the West Coast.
