Wolves lose in overtime battle to Xplorers, 58-52

The Manchester Wolves (2-3) had the upset win in their grasps, but before they could blink their eyes Memphis (5-1) was walking home with the 58-52 overtime win at the DeSota Civic Center in Southhaven, MS in front of 2,211 fans.

The Wolves had their most explosive offensive output thanks to an impressive outing by D. Bryant who threw for 389 yards and eight touchdowns. Steve "Speedy" Gonzalez, was D's favorite target, catching a Wolves' franchise record 15 catches on 120 yards for three touchdowns. Gonzalez earned the U.S. Army Ironman of the Game award for his offensive and defensive efforts, which included an interception grab during the Xplorers final drive in the remaining seconds of the fourth quarter.

Manchester failed to capitalize on their overtime possession though, as a full-field pass on 4th down from Bryant fell out of the hands of Gonzalez once he landed in the endzone.

Memphis led by Brian Jones, 331 yards passing for seven touchdowns and one interception, put the final dagger in the Wolves' with a 30yard overtime pass to Kenny Higgins for the win. Higgins claimed the Schutt Offensive Player of the Game with his 10 catches for 135 yards and three touchdown performance.

The Wolves take on the Albany Conquest (3-2) next Saturday at the Pepsi Arena in Albany, NY. then retun home on May 20th to take on the Florida Firecats for Military Appreciation Night sponsored by Delta Dental.
