Wolves cover up, add two defensive specialists
The arenafootball2 league office announced that DS Rod Chance and DS Ron Frazier have been assigned to the Manchester Wolves professional af2 team for the 2007 season. Chance and Frazier will both be entering their rookie seasons with the Wolves.
Chance (5-9, 180), a University of Rhode Island graduate, will enter his first season in the af2 after a five-year career (2001-2005) with the Rams. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native, who red-shirted his sophomore season due to a knee injury, collected six interceptions, 150 tackles, two forced fumbles, and two touchdowns defensively in 44 career games. At Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Florida, Chance lettered in football, track and basketball while earning all-county and all-state honorable mention honors in football.
Frazier (6-0, 211), a Shepherd University graduate, will enter his first season in the af2 after a four-year career (2001-2004) with the Rams. The Gaithesburg, Md. native tallied eight interceptions for 176 yards and three touchdowns while returning 17 kickoffs for 409 yards and three touchdowns. Frazier has brief National Football League experience as well, when he attended the Washington Redskins mini-camp in 2005. In 1999 Frazier was named to the All-MET football team as a Defensive Honorable Mention while attending high school in Maryland. Frazier will have a familiar teammate when he enters training camp in March for the Wolves as second-year lineman Ramal Faunteroy was part of the same graduating class at Shepherd.
"We're looking to replace 2/3rds or our secondary due to them signing with AFL teams so we need some great athletes back there," said Wolves Head Coach Ben Bennett. "Rod is a little smaller than Ron but is more of a natural cover guy. Ron is a tremendous athlete and should be the physical type we need against bigger receivers."
With the new additions the Manchester Wolves now have 26 of their 35 training camp roster spots filled. The 2007 training camp opens March 10, at Bedford Rising Stars sports complex in Bedford, N.H.
