Wisconsin Wolfpack News Release
The Wisconsin Wolfpack announced they have signed four players with ties to the state of Wisconsin to 2009 contracts. Former University of Wisconsin-Whitewater offensive linemen Mike Sherman and Rob Gilbreath, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse running back Eric Donoval, and Hartland Arrowhead standout and former Iowa Hawkeye Eric Zilisch, will all join the Wolfpack infor their inaugural season.
As a senior in 2008, Sherman was a unanimous First Team Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Conference (WIAC) All-Conference selection. He also earned All-American status from d3football.com. During Sherman's four years at UW-Whitewater, the Warhawks compiled a 55-5 record, won four consecutive WIAC conference championships, appeared in four national championship games, and produced two NCAA rushing leaders. As a junior, Sherman was part of an offensive line that helped the Warhawks earn their first NCAA National Championship in school history.
Gilbreath, a 6' 2" 290-pound offensive lineman, was named to the All-WIAC team in 2008 season. The Warhawks averaged a conference best 215 yards on the ground per contest. With Sherman starting at left tackle and Gilbreath at right tackle, the Warhawk offensive line produced two, 1,000 yard rushers during the 2008 season and earned their fourth straight trip to the Stagg Bowl.
Donoval was named to the All-WIAC team as both a running back and a return specialist for the 2008 season, and as a return specialist for the 2007 season. Donoval, a Sheboygan South graduate, finished third in the WIAC in rushing in 2008. Look for Donoval to make a big impact in the Wolfpack's offense in 2009.
The talented Zillisch will play on the defensive line for the Wolfpack to take full advantage of his athletic 6'5" frame. Eric was a former two-time, all-state defensive end at prep powerhouse Arrowhead High School. Zilisch was named State Lineman of the Year in 2001 by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. In 2002, Zillisch accepted a full scholarship to the University of Iowa and was a member of the 2003 Orange Bowl team as well as the 2004 Capitol One Bowl Championship.
"I am excited any time we can bring in a player from a program in a BCS conference and it's an added bonus that he is a local kid who played in championship games just down the road from here," said Wolfpack defensive coordinator Peter Kishline. "Eric has great ability and a passion for the game and we are excited about his play."
