Chicago Slaughter News Release

Hoffman Estates, IL -- The Chicago Slaughter of the Continental Indoor Football League, announced the signing of DE Khreem Smith. Smith had been with the Chicago Rush since the 2006 season, during which he was named second team All-Arena, Chicago Rush Rookie of the Year, and to the league's All-Rookie team. He joins the CIFL 2008 sack leader on the team's defensive line.

"We are extremely excited to see what Khreem can do," said Slaughter General Manager, Alan Perkins. "He is an exceptional athlete that I feel will be extremely difficult to block. Slaughter fans should expect to see plenty of defensive pressure this year with Khreem and last years CIFL sack leader, Brian Ceaser."

The 6'4", 270-pound Smith recorded 22.5 tackles, eight sacks and six forced fumbles, while playing in all 16 games in 2006. He recorded three sacks in the 2007 playoffs, including two sacks in the team's May 21 playoff win at Nashville. Smith's pro football career began in 2004, as he attended the Baltimore Ravens training camp. He went on to play for the Memphis Xplorers of AF2 in 2005. Smith was a member of the Minnesota Vikings practiced squad in 2007.

Smith played collegiately at Oklahoma State University after starting his career at Garden City (KS) Community College. He recorded 94 tackles, 8.5 sacks and 20 tackles for loss in 35 career games, and was named second team All-Big 12 as a senior during 2003. Smith was also named honorable mention All-Jayhawk Conference in his one season Garden City.

"I want to teach some of the guys some of the things I have learned throughout the years," Smith said about his signing with the Slaughter. "I didn't know how defensive ends could get to the quarterback so quick in arena football. I went to the Explorers in Arena 2, and by the second week I got the hang of it. I learned how to rush tight and faster. It's going to be fun working with the young guys."

The 2009 Chicago Slaughter home season kicks off on Friday, March 6th at 7:00 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates. Individual tickets are now on sale for all Slaughter home games.
