Wolfpack Runs Over Bonecrushers

May 2, 2009 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL)
Wisconsin Wolfpack News Release

Running back Eric Donoval (UW-La Crosse) rushed for 94 yards and three touchdowns in a convincing 69-26 victory over the Milwaukee Bonecrushers (2-5). Derrick Brown (Texas A&M) added two rushing touchdowns and new quarterback Tom Kudyba (Illinois Wesleyan) contributed 45 yards on the ground in the effort.

The Wolfpack (5-2) jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter behind five-yard touchdown runs by Donoval and Brown and a 39-yard touchdown pass from Kudyba to Will Norwood (Ohio University). Donoval would add another touchdown run early in the second quarter to give the Wolfpack a 28-6 lead.

The Bonecrushers would fight back to narrow the lead to 28-19 late in the first half. That's when the Wolfpack began an incredible streak of 41 unanswered points that started with a Paul Schroeder (UW-Oshkosh/DeForest High School) 25-yard field goal with eight seconds to play in the first half.

Donoval started out the second half with an explosive 45-yard touchdown run, two yards short of the Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL) record. Brown would score on a four-yard run just two minutes later and Donoval would contribute the two-point conversion.

On the ensuing kickoff, defensive back Derek Brown (UW-Whitewater) forced a fumble in the end zone and Sam D'Alie (Racine Horlick) recovered it for a touchdown, giving the Wolfpack a 51-19 lead. Brown would have two forced fumbles in the game.

The rout continued in the third quarter when Kudyba found Marques Johnson (North Dakota State) open for a four-yard touchdown pass. Kudyba and Norwood connected on the two-point conversion and the Wolfpack led 59-19.

The second half belonged to defensive lineman Kurt Ware (Wisconsin), however. With 7:16 to play in the game, Ware sacked Bonecrusher quarterback Brett Hall in the end zone for a safety. Ware had an interception, forced fumble, and 3-1/2 sacks in the second half, to go with two assisted tackles in the first half.

The Wolfpack drove the ball on the ensuing kickoff and Kudyba again found Johnson for a 15-yard touchdown pass, giving the Wolfpack a 69-19 lead with 5:45 to play.

The Bonecrushers returned the Wolfpack Kickoff to the Wolfpack 15-yard line. They ran the ball three straight times, culminating with an Adam Chorazy four-yard touchdown run. The Ben Aguilar kick was good providing the final score of 69-26.

Kudyba went 3-10 for 57 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the first half, but rebounded in the second half. He went 9-12 for 11 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Donoval, the CIFL's second-leading rusher contributed 11 carries for 94 yards and three touchdowns. Brown had 91 total yards and two touchdowns. Norwood led the way receiving with four grabs for 82 yards and a touchdown. Johnson had three catches for 45 yards and two touchdowns.

On defense, D'Alie continued his stellar play, recording his third interception in two games. Linebacker James Cichon had four solo and two assisted tackles.

The Wolfpack welcome the Marion Mayhem (5-2) to the Veterans Memorial Coliseum next week Saturday. The Mayhem are in first place in the Eastern Division and beat the Miami Valley Silverbacks (0-5) 36-2 tonight in Marion.

The game starts at 7:00 p.m. and tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster or the Alliant Energy Center ticket office. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
