
Wizards, D-Fenders Grab Former Maryland Guards

GREENVILLE, S.C., Feb. 7, 2007 - The Dakota Wizards and the Los Angeles D-Fenders made roster moves today, both acquiring former University of Maryland guards.
The Wizards acquired Chris McCray, a 6-5, 192-pound rookie, who was released by the Milwaukee Bucks on Jan. 4 after appearing in five games this season. He helped lead Maryland to an ACC Tournament championship in 2004 and to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2003. As a senior last season, he averaged 15.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists.
Dakota waived forward AL Neale due to injury. Neale played in 17 games for the Wizards, averaging 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds in 15.7 minutes.
Los Angeles acquired former Terrapin John Gilchrist, who had summer league stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers (2005) and the Denver Nuggets (2006). An early entrant that went undrafted following his junior season at Maryland, Gilchrist, 6-3, 201, has been playing in Israel and France the last two seasons. In his final season at Maryland (2004-05) he averaged 13.9 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 28 games. He also garnered 2004 ACC Tournament MVP honors as the Terrapins won the tourney and joined McCray on the 2003 Sweet 16 team.
The D-Fenders waived forward TJ Cummings, who had played in 23 games for LA and Albuquerque this season, averaging 12.9 points and 4.5 rebounds in 24.7 minutes.
