Wiser back in the saddle against the Calvary
April 21, 2006 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
Tri-Cities Fever News Release
Quarterback Joe Wiser will be under center for the Fever this Saturday night against the Wyoming Cavalry. That is great news for Fever fans that have patiently gone through four different starting quarterbacks in as many games.
Wiser tested his injured wrist out with a solid 25 reps during team drills on Wednesday night at practice. "He looked pretty good and felt pretty good," said head coach Dan Whitsett after the practice. Wiser has clearly been the most electrifying and productive quarterback to strap it up for the Fever this year. He captured the crowd with perfectly thrown deep balls and athletic runs against the Big Sky Thunder. The passes at least reminded many Fever fans of last seasons quarterback Doug Coleman. "It will be great to get Joe back out there," said Whitsett. "He is the leader of this team offensively and he just brings everybody with him to another level."
Although Wiser will be back in uniform, center Aaron "Pudge" Retzlaff will not be. "His knee is still very sore and he wasn't able to practice productively on it," said Whitsett. "He may be another week away." Quarterback DeMarcus Morris, who drew the start in the season opener against Billings, may also be a week away according to Whitsett. "De's hand is still sore and healing."
This Saturday's game between the Fever and Cavalry has been the hot topic around the Tri-Cities all week long. Many Fever fans are being made aware of the rivalry that has been created between these two teams. Several "Rowdy Fan" promotions have hit the scene this week. Fever Owner Teri Carr vowed to give away season tickets for next year to the Fan she feels is the most spirited in showing strong support for the team during the game against Wyoming Saturday night. She will personally be keeping her eye out and walking the Toyota Center to find the best "Fan."
Clear Channel Radio and 870 The Field with "Locker Room" host Philly Robb have been giving away 8 seats this week to fans that call into the radio station and tryout to be the guest at the game. Fans have to audition on the air and prove they are the rowdiest fans in the Tri-Cities and deserve one of the "8 Rowdy Fans" roster spots.
Game time Saturday night is 7:05 p.m. (PST). Tickets are available at the Toyota Center Box Office, or by call TicketsWest at 1-800-325-SEAT.
