Wirll and Hackett honored

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Barracudas of the newly formed Eastern Hockey League are proud to announce that Mike Wirll and Chris Hackett are going to be recognized by the Hockey Hall of Fame for achievements on the ice during the WHA2 play-offs.

"Mike Wirll and Chris Hackett were chosen in particular for their achievements in this year's WHA2 championship," Izak Westgate, Coordinator, Exhibit Production Hockey Hall of Fame said. "Both were great accomplishments that both players and Barracudas fans will remember for years to come."

Wirll, a rookie who split time between the Barracudas and the Charlotte Checkers of the ECHL, was name WHA2 Play-off MVP. He scored six points during the play-offs (3g-3a) including one game winning goal, and one game winner in overtime.

Hackett, a rookie from Paradise, Newfoundland, led the Barracudas in scoring during the play-offs with seven points (2g-5a). His third period goal in game two against Macon was the series clincher.

Wirll's and Hackett's game worn jerseys as well as other memorabilia from the Barracudas championship season can be seen at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario CANADA as part of the "Year in Review" exhibit that recaps the past season's milestones, accomplishments, records, and championships from minor pro to amateur hockey. The exhibit opens the end of July and will run until the following season. The Barracudas artifacts will then become part of the "Hometown Hockey" section of the Current Minor Pro Hockey exhibit.

The Barracudas will defend their championship against the Alabama Slammers, Ashville Aces, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, and the Orlando Seals as well as yet to be named teams in Huntsville, Alabama.
