Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release

Amarillo, TX (July 22, 2006) - The Bossier - Shreveport BattleWings used an opportunistic defensive charge to defeat the Amarillo Dusters 46-34, earning their first road victory since May of 2005.

Wings defenders intercepted three Jared Rouanzoin passes on the way to victory. Phillip Geigger and Terrell Sutton had interceptions, but it was a Josh Richey pick late in the fourth quarter that preserved the Wings' win.

The BattleWings also benefited from a defense score. Nicky Savoie hit Rouanzoin in the end zone and stripped the ball away. Charlie Myles pounced on it for a touchdown which gave the Wings 20-14 lead.

The outcome of the game remained in doubt until less than three minutes remained in the third quarter. Deep in Amarillo territory, Charlie Myles took a pitch from J.J. Raterink and vaulted into the end zone for a score. Brian Hazelwood's extra point made the score 40-27, and the Wings would not relinquish the lead. Myles was named Iron Man of the game.

Raterink was quietly effective and earned offensive player of the game honors by completing 20 of 29 passes for two touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Bossier-Shreveport defense held Rouanzoin to nine completions of 32 attempts. Anthony Chambers led all BattleWings receivers with seven catches for seventy-three yards and a touchdown. Fullback Jason Schule, the first-year player from Louisiana-Monroe, caught four passes for thirty-five yards.

With the victory, the BattleWings snap a four-game losing streak and improve their record to 3-12 in 2006. They will close out the season next Saturday in Oklahoma City. Earlier this season, the Wings defeated the Oklahoma City Yards Dawgz 53-50 at CenturyTel Center.
