Wings Rally to Defeat Mystics, 94-86

Washington, D.C. - The Dallas Wings (1-1) defeated the Washington Mystics (3 -1), 94 - 86, at Entertainment and Sports Arena Friday night.

Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale poured in the highest scoring quarter of her career in the second quarter, tallying 19 points to help close a 15-point deficit, the largest comeback for Dallas since 2016. Ogunbowale did most of her damage from deep, as she netted a career-high tying six threes, five in the second quarter, and finished with a game-high 27 points. Guard Ty Harris helped Ogunbowale find space from deep, as she dished out a career-high 10 assists, the first player since 2018 to dish out double-digit assists for the Wings.

Forward Isabelle Harrison locked it down in the front court, as she recorded the first double-double of the season for the Wings with 15 points and 10 rebounds, a team-high. Guard Allisha Gray also lit up the scoreboard, as she scored 21 points of her own, part of all five Wings starters reaching double-figures.

Dallas travels to the Big Apple to take on the New York Liberty (1-1) in an afternoon bout on Sunday, May 15. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. CT.

On the second half adjustment...

"I think how we finished the half was very important. Defensively, and we made some shots. We believed as a whole that we could win the basketball game, and it was about our defense. So, when we came in the third quarter, we just wanted to play hard, to defend and to play for each other, and we did that. We had an opportunity to take the lead, and then we kept the lead. It was very impressive, and I was very impressed with my team, mostly defensively. But also, our bench was a +39. We had all five starters in double figures, which is amazing. We had Ty Harris with 10 assists with one turnover, so it was a very impressive team win."

On Arike and Allisha combining for 48 points...

"I expect that from them. They are in their fourth years plus, so I expect them to shoot the ball and shoot it with confidence. Also, Mabrey as well. She can put up numbers as well. I expect that from those three guards. They performed very well for us tonight."

On forcing 18 turnovers...

"It means a lot to us. It means the defense is active. I asked them to have active hands, get deflections and we did that. As a whole, we were able to contain the ball and also put pressure on the fours. It was a great team win, but defensively I was very impressed."

On Arike's leadership...

"She is the face of this team; we expect that from Arike. She had 19 in the second quarter, and she finished with 27. We expect that from her. We know teams are going to come at her with different defenses, double-teams and traps, but she just needs to take her time, trust her teammates, move the basketball and it will come back to her. She made shots."
