Philadelphia Wings News Release
The Philadelphia Wings improved their season record to 1-1, winning a 10-9 overtime thriller over the Washington Stealth at Wells Fargo Center Saturday Night.
After rallying from a two-goal deficit early in the fourth quarter, the Philadelphia took a late lead and then held on to force overtime against the 2010 NLL champion Stealth. Wings standout rookie Kevin Crowley put an end to the game just 3:27 into the extra period and accounted for half of the team's goals in the game.
Crowley tallied five goals and one assists to lead the Wings to victory, proving for the second straight game that he was worth the number one overall pick this past summer. With his six points tonight, Crowley now has an impressive 14 total points (8G, 6A) on the season through two games.
It was a back-and-forth contest all night, with neither team leading by any more than three throughout the entire game. Trailing 6-5, entering the decisive fourth quarter, the Wings came out aggressive as forward Brendan Mundorf lit the lamp twice within the first three minutes and three seconds of the quarter to give the Wings a 7-6 advantage. Drew Westervelt added a goal less than a minute later putting the Wings ahead 8-6.
Washington tied the game at 9-9 with just more than three minutes remaining in the game, but the Wings responded in overtime with the deciding goal.
Also playing well for Philadelphia were Westervelt with three goals and Dan Dawson with four helpers. Goalie Brandon Miller was a brick wall between the pipes, making several spectacular saves throughout the game and tallying 49 saves.
The Stealth were led by a quartet of three point scorers, including Matt Beers and Cam Sedgwick who score two goals a piece.
After a road game versus the Buffalo Bandits on Friday, January 27, the Wings will return home to Wells Fargo Center to play 2011 NLL Champion Toronto Rock on Saturday, February 4 at 7 p.m.
