Philadelphia Wings News Release
Former Philadelphia Wings goaltender Dallas Eliuk will be one of two inductees into the National Lacrosse League's Hall of Fame in 2009. Eliuk was part of four Wings championship teams (1994, '95, '98. '01) and was named postseason Most Valuable players twice (1998, '01). He will be joined by Jim Veltman who played all but one of his 16 season with Buffalo and Toronto.
"There aren't two more deserving players then Dallas Eliuk and Jim Veltman. Dallas is a close friend, great leader, and was the cornerstone of four championship teams in Philadelphia," said Wings Executive Vice President and co-Owner Michael French. "Veltman was a consummate professional and a great example of someone who showed dedication both on the field and in the community. Both men are superstars of the game of lacrosse and the Wings are extremely pleased that they will be honored by the National Lacrosse League."
Eliuk played 15 of his 18 seasons with the Wings (1991-05) and holds team records in saves (5,373), games played (168), and is second in loose balls (996). He was a First Team All-Pro on seven occasions, six of which were in consecutive seasons from 1993 to 1998. Eliuk was also awarded Second Team All-Pro honors twice in 1992 and 2000. Two NLL goaltending records also belong to Eliuk as he is the all-time Leader in saves (6,356) and also holds the single season record for saves (608) which he set in 2003.
"Dallas was a special player for the Wings and a perpetual MVP for us. We traded him only at his request for personal reasons and hated to lose him," said Wings President and co-Owner Russ Cline. "He is a personal friend and the Hall of Fame becomes more special with his selection along with another one of my favorites Jim Veltman. We are very proud of Dallas and will forever be indebted to the wonderful years of play he gave us as a member of the Wings family."
The ceremony for the Class of 2009 will take place on Saturday, March 7th as part of the league's All-Star Weekend in Denver. The All-Star Game takes place later that evening (9pm ET/7pm MT) at Pepsi Center. For tickets and information surrounding all events, please call 303-405-1101.
