Wings get back on track with 3-1 win

January 7, 2004 - United States Hockey League (USHL) - Danville Wings News Release

The Wings were happy to have Derek Patrosso and Alex Foster back from the Viking Cup as Patrosso scored the game winner and Foster added 2 assists as the Wings broke a 3 game losing streak by beating Green Bay 3-1. Bryan Marshall added 2 goals and an assist bringing his total points to a league high 39. With under two minutes remaining in the first Marshall scored his 14th goal of the year to give the Wings a 1-0 lead. Early in the second Green Bay scored a power play goal to even the score. But :44 seconds later Patrosso scored his 8th goal of the year for the eventual game winner. Marshall secured the win early in the 3rd as Danville (17-9-4) moved into a point of second place Chicago who the Wings will play twice this weekend. They will travel to Chicago on Friday night and will host the Steel this Sunday at the Palmer Arena at 3pm.

Former Wing Meyers ECHL Saver of the Week

January 6, 2004 - Former Danville Wing goalie Scott Meyer received the ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week for December 29-January 4th. Meyer recorded 3 wins with a shutout and a 1.31 goals against for the Charlotte Checkers. In his last six games Meyer has been dominant going 5-0-0 with a 1.81 goals against and a .942 save percentage.

U.S. Junior National Team Collects Gold

January 6, 2004 - The United States National Junior Team captured its first gold medal in the 28 year history of the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championships defeating Canada 4-3. Three former USHL standouts, Matt Carle (River City), Danny Richmond (Chicago), and Dominic Vicari (River City), helped the Americans in their quest. Down 3-1 after two periods of play, the U.S. scored three unanswered goals against Pittsburgh Penguin goalie Marc Andre Fleury. Team USA ended the tournament 6-0-0.
