Wichita Wings News Release

WICHITA, Kan. -The Wichita Wings (4-6) continued their win streak against the Syracuse Silver Knights (5-8) with a 14-8 thrashing Friday evening in Hartman Arena, this time in regulation. Geison led all scorers with a hat trick, followed by goals from Matt Clare, Freddy Moojen and Tiguinho contributing to the great teamwork that was on display all night for the Wings.

The first quarter of play between Wichita and Syracuse was chippy, with several fouls that would prove the significance of the newfound rivalry. The Wings converted on three out of their four shots on goal with spectacular ball movement. Geison scored the first goal of the evening two minutes in off a substitution and assist from Sanaldo and again at the 8:26 mark to put the Wings up 4-0 to the Silver Knights. Matt Clare, determined to have a repeat of his last meeting against his former team, continued the Wings tradition with a three-pointer to extend the wings lead 7-0. With a minute left in the first quarter, the Silver Knights had a great chance off of a restart, but a crucial diving block by Kevin Ten Eyck kept the ball out of the net and highlighted a strong defensive effort by the Wings. Less than two seconds before the end of the quarter, however, Nate Bourdeau put the Silver Knights on the board with a two-pointer, to leave the score 7-2 at the close of the first period.

Freddy continued the scoring early in the second quarter with a great turn on the left side of the box, finishing with a great left-footed volley right between Bryan O'Quinn's legs to extend the Wings' lead 9-2. The Silver Knights continued to struggle against the Wings defense and would only produce a blue card courtesy of Neto to give the Wings a two minute power play. Wichita would not be able to score off the advantage before the half ended to leave the Wings lead 9-2.

Neto redeemed himself with a goal in the third quarter for the Silver Knights to reduce their deficit 9-4, Wings still leading. Marcos Chantel awarded Wichita with their second power play advantage of the evening and their fifth goal of the evening with a goal by Tiguinho to extend the Wings lead, 11-4 going into the final quarter.

The fourth quarter was packed with aggressive defense, as Syracuse fought to get back in the game and Wichita battled to keep their lead. Nate Boudreau scored his second goal of the night against the Wings early to bring the score to 11-6. Neto would also score his second goal of the night with about a minute to go in the game to bring the Silver Knights closer to the Wings with two point goal to make it 11-8. With just seconds left and a sixth attacker on the field, Geison completed the hat trick on an empty goal to give the Wings their third win against Syracuse in a final score of 14-8.
