Wilmington Hammerheads Secure Victory over Wolves

Wilmington, NC - The Wilmington Hammerheads met the Phoenix FC Wolves for a second time this season securing a 2-1 victory in front of 2,752 fans on Friday night at a sunny legion stadium.

As both teams aggressively ran on the field at the start of the game it quickly became visible that each was hungry for a win.

Jamel Wallace opened up the scoring with the first goal for the Hammerheads early in the 6th minute of the half. After a throw in from defender Uriah Bentick, Wallace was able to secure possession of the ball and launch it hard across the right goal post past Phoenix goalkeeper Andrew Weber and directly into the corner of the goal enhancing the score to 1-0.

As the half continued, the Wolves, hoping to equalize the score, attempted their first goal with a shot by Deigo Faria da Saiva only to be saved by Hammerhead goalkeeper Phillip Tuttle. The Wolves continued their effort in the 41st minute of the game with a goal by forward Donald Toia to tie up the score.

As the game proceeded and the pressure increased, both teams continued to fight aggressively to stretch the score and secure a lead. After multiple attempted goals, unsuccessful for both teams, Hammerhead midfielder Daniel Roberts was able to break the tie and protect the lead with after scoring in the 45th minute of the game just before the end of the half.

The second half of the game started slowly. The Wolves attempted to retaliate with 3 shots on goal all unsuccessful leaving the Hammerheads in the lead and allowing them to claim their fourth win of the season.

Next week the Hammerheads will travel to Pennsylvania to take on the Harrisburg City Islanders on Wednesday, June 5th at 7:00 pm at Skyline Sports Complex.
