VSI Tampa Bay FC News Release

Tampa, Fla - VSI Tampa Bay FC and Portland Timbers Reserves weathered the first day of hurricane season in typical Florida style, waiting patiently through the lightning delays for kickoff.

After a delayed warm-up, VSI kicked off nearly an hour later than originally intended. VSI Tampa Bay FC's forward Andriy Budnyy opened the match with an early, unassisted goal. Portland Timbers FC retaliated quickly bouncing back in the first five minutes of play with a goal from midfielder Michael Nanchoff.

The play continued back and forth with many scoring opportunities and an overwhelming eight goals in total by the end of the game.

VSI Tampa Bay FC's Andriy Budnyy fired another one home with an assist from midfielder Joseph 'JT' Noone. Moments later Shawn Chin clipped another one in and Douglas Dos Santos rounded out the half with an unassisted goal in the 45th minute of play to see VSI enter the half up 4-1.

As the second half began, so did the Portland Timbers Reserves' comeback. Timbers' Sebastien Rincon initiated the comeback in the 47th minute of the match with Jose Valencia securing the third goal in the 56th minute. Midfielder Sal Zizzo equalized the game for the Timbers on a penalty kick in the 68th minute.

The center official called back Sal Zizzo's penalty kick due to a Portland violation and Sal Zizzo retook the kick. His goal, the last of the match, gave a point to both sides for the night as the result remained 4-4.

VSI Tampa Bay FC now faces Antigua on Friday, June 7 at 7:30 p.m. ET in Plant City Stadium.

All of VSI Tampa Bay FC's 2013 USL PRO, PDL and W-League home matches will be played out of VSI's Plant City Stadium, which is located at 1810 East Park Road, Plant City, Florida 33563.
